With the film Diner, Mickey Rourke made his comedic debut in 1982. In 1986’s 912Weeks and 1987’s Angel Core, his acting ability and ability to discuss the controversial subject matter in his positions propelled him to stardom, though it didn’t entirely break new ground. These films cemented his status as a sex icon alongside co-stars Kim Basinger and Lisa Bonet, despite being mild by today’s standards. In 1991, Rourke decided he’d had enough of acting and turned to boxing. When he was younger, he used to train as a fighter. After only three years in the ring, his boxing career was cut short.

When Rourke returned to acting after a boxing career in the 1990s, he landed a few small roles. His incredible talent encouraged him to work tirelessly, frequently playing misfits and misguided tough guys, despite his face being badly bruised from his time on the fight scene. Rourke didn’t return to the big screen again until 2005’s Sin City. In 2009, he was nominated for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Oscar for his performance in The Wrestler. He’s had a lot of cosmetic surgery over the years, and as a result, he’s a handsome older man.
