As World War II progressed and reached its peak, an increasing number of men were called up for military service. Billie not only possessed the necessary talents for the military, but he also distinguished himself from the other soldiers. Despite the fact that he was a top prospect for them, they had not sought out to him. Billie was well aware that the day would ultimately come. Since he was in pilot training, he had expressed a desire and purpose to serve his country in some form, thus his enlistment in the military was a rite of passage for him.
