It wasn’t until March 2016 that the Navy revealed General Dynamics Electric Boat as the main contractor and lead design yard. Electric Boat was responsible for the creation of all 18 Ohio-class submarines. Even though Electric Boat will be responsible for the majority of the work on the 12 submarines, untington Ingalls Industries’ Newport News Shipbuilding will be the prime subcontractor and will assist with design and construction. We believe they will be responsible for between 20-25% of the work.

Hiring Employees
The hiring process began at the back-end of 2016. Electric Boat hired around 3,000 people to start the design phase of the project, with the first sub tipped to be built in 2021. The completion date for the submarine is tipped to be 2030, with service beginning in 2031. We expect all 12 subs to be completed by 2042.
