From the year 2027, we will see one of these submarines be decommissioned annually. After this, the Columbia class will take on the responsibility of submarine presence in the US strategic nuclear force. The US Navy has the intention to purchase twelve of the new subs. Each of these will then be equipped with sixteen missile tubes, with each one having the capacity of carrying one Trident II D5LE missile. We have to take other factors into account however, when building a submarine just like this one.
