One of the first chains for casual eating and sports bars was called Bennigan’s. They were always behind Friday’s, Applebee’s, and Chili’s in terms of similar ideas, though. The chain underwent many sales before declaring bankruptcy in 2008. 23 locations in the US have remained open under new management.

The combined number of Ponderosa and Bonanza Steakhouses in the United States was formerly close to 600; they are now controlled by the same parent corporation. The combined number of both is currently approximately 80 nationwide.
