Mr. Steak
In the 1970s, Mr. Steak, a franchise of steakhouses, was very well-liked. Unfortunately, these steaks weren’t juicy enough to withstand growing competition from new steakhouse businesses like Sizzler and Stuart Anderson’s Black Angus, and they eventually went out of business in 1987 after declaring bankruptcy. Nearly 300 outlets were run by the company at its height.
Bob’s Big Boy
In the 20th century, Bob’s Big Boy’s double-decker burgers and distinctive mascot became a mainstay of American roads. About 100 outlets in California and the Midwest continue support the network.
