Convair B-36 Peacemaker
Between 1949 and 1959, the Convair B-36 Peacemaker was in service with the United States Air Force. In terms of size, this is one of the largest piston-engined planes ever built. With a 230-foot wing span, it was the combat aircraft with the largest wingspan ever built. It was one-of-a-kind because it had the capability of deploying all of the nuclear warheads in the United States’ arsenal at the time.
Boeing C-17 Globemaster III
In terms of size, the C-17 Globemaster III is one of the largest military planes ever built. Its inaugural flight took place in 1991. This item was still in production as of 2015. Even though the type was created by McDonnell Douglas for the United States Air Force, a single unit cost $218 million to build. After then, the plane was used for a variety of airlift operations.
