Peggy was stationed at a location in Texas, and Billie lived in San Antonio, which was somewhat far from the base. As a result, the only choice left to them was to write letters to one another. After they initially met in person, they continued to correspond to one another on a regular basis. They had become the best of friends as a result of these letters, and as more letters arrived, so did their feelings. After some time had gone, Billie began to increase her flirtation, and before long, the two were officially courting.

The new couple did everything just how it was expected of them. Following that, Billie proposed to Peggy, the lady he adored, and she, of course, accepted. The pair exchanged vows and became husband and wife on September 22, 1943. The Sunshine State was the venue for their wedding. The couple had no idea what hardships lay ahead for them; all they could hope for was that their love would be strong enough to carry them through.
