Other than George Tobias, it’s tough to imagine anyone else playing Abner Kravitz. However, the character actor was not the first option for the part! The producers initially preferred Jim Backus. However, due to his duties on Gilligan’s Island, Thurston Howell III, better known by his stage name, declined them.
