He examined the film reel once again. The word “EXPOSE” was scribbled on the side. “I believed that meant the roll had been exposed and used,” Martijn said. He was well aware that this was an old camera.

There was no way to tell how old the film was. He began his investigation by learning about the picture and when it was created. He experienced shivers all over when he discovered the date.

“I discovered the camera was created in 1924,” he explained. This means the camera was around 89 years old! Given the age of the film, it was doubtful that any of the photographs would have survived all those years. What a pity!

Martijn, on the other hand, thought it was still worth a chance and phoned his friend Johan Hollerman, a photographic developer. Unfortunately, Martijn was confronted with some unpleasant news after chatting with Johan.

Johan and Martijn couldn’t check if there were any photographs to rescue because the roll of film couldn’t be opened or exposed to sunshine. They were desperate to find out, which is how they got up in Johan’s dark kitchen on a Tuesday morning.
